Special: FOXX
Someone asked me to comment on the Foxx special and all the gossip that has been surrounding it. My comment is below. So here is an issue not involving me

I enjoyed the special, it was different and since I have not purchased his album, it gave me the opportunity to listen to some of the featured songs. With the controversy surrounding Jamie Foxx and NBC its always going to be something. Here you have a African American artist which is know by white America (more for his acting ability then singing talent), but will his special be a hit on a all white network. To make the show more diverse I would expect NBC to want him to feature white musicians. You would have not only have white and black people that support Foxx tuning into the show, but in addition, more white ppl tuning in to see their favorite white artist. Being that Foxx didn't seem to collaborate with any white artist, I think it would have taken away from his show concept, due to the fact it was in promotion of his album. Also, since most of his guest appeared on the album it made perfect sense for him to have them on the special. Was race involved or just ratings and money? When is a little bit of all not? On the other hand, I appreciated the fact that Foxx stood up to NBC executives about what his vision was for the show. Sometimes to many African American are willing to conform for the greater good, which would be in this case to have a successful special on a network that would not usually have had an 1 hour special for an artist whose music hasn't crossed over or frankly for a hip-hop, black, militant/non-conforming musician. By that all I mean is someone who is comfortable and proud being black around every and anyone.
